It is not everyday that a brand new botanic garden is unveiled to the public, and I believe such news is worth celebrating! It is very exciting to hear that the Delaware Botanic Gardens in Ocean View, Delaware will be opening to the public beginning Thursday, Aug. 20.

I first heard about the plans for this new garden back at 2017’s Philadelphia Flower Show where a recreation of famous landscape designer Piet Oudolf’s studio displayed his actual design of the soon-to-be-opened meadow garden unfurled across the desk. It was thrilling to hear that a major new garden would be opening and it was quite notable to have the designer of the High Line gardens in New York involved with the project!

The Delaware Botanic Gardens sits along Pepper Creek, offering both tidal waterfront and woodland, as well as wide open lawns and meadows. The Oudolf-designed Meadow Garden looks to be a smorgasbord of flowers and grasses to delight visitors as well as offer much-needed habitat for pollinators and birds. Other highlights include the unique Inland Dune Gardens, the Folly Gardens, and the Rhyne Garden focusing on native plants.

I cannot wait to visit this exciting new garden, and I encourage you to do so as well!
